How can you get more people to share your blog posts? Do you feel a measure of satisfaction when others share your blog content on social media sites? Certainly, you do! It gives you much joy and a sense of accomplishment to know that people are reading and sharing your blogs.

Honesty, I can’t express how much joy I felt when I saw my first ever blog post on medium, liked and shared on Twitter more than 30 times on its 2nd day. The excitement urges you on to do even more of what you’re doing – create more quality blog content.

However, some articles do not scale through in terms of social sharing. They fail to get the share counts they deserve. Why? The reason, according to a survey by CoSchedule they’re not promoting their posts well enough. The study indicates that 77℅ of respondents share their blog content only three times or less.

That is disappointing.

You want to get more people to share your blog posts on various social media networks to reach a broader audience, get you noticed, and establish yourself as an authority in your industry. But how can you get your blog posts shared on various social media platforms?

Related Post: 10 Easy Ways to Get More Readers for Your Blog Posts

In this article, you’ll learn practical steps that will help you get more people to share your blog posts across social media sites.

1: Create Compelling Blog Content

Great content is the key to your content marketing success. If you develop compelling blog posts with the right keywords and the proper promotion, it will dramatically skyrocket your social media shares. Here is what Brian Sutter said about the need to write compelling content:

“If you do enough promotion, people will take a look at your content. Once they engage with it and find it to be less than great, you’ll have made a bad impression on them. And they’ll remember the experience. If you continue to promote weak content, you’ll be training your audience to ignore you.”  — Brian Sutter

Brian is right, because, creating less valuable blog content will give your audience a wrong impression about your brand. And it can result in less readership and social shares. So you need to come up with blog content that will add value to your target audience.

However, be mindful of the fact that a compelling content comes handy with an irresistible headline. Ensure your content headline is captivating. In this way, you’re more likely to get more people to share your blog posts.

2: Write Long-form Content

It is essential that you create long-form content because they are more in-depth, well researched with fantastic value. Study shows that on average, long-form content performs remarkably well than short-form content in terms of social media shares.

The chart below, by OkDork and CoSchedule, reveals the performance of both long-form and short-form content on share counts on social media sites.

8 Powerful Ways To Get Your Blog Content Shared On Social Media

Source: OkDork

From the graph above, you can see that the content length that gets the most shares is 3,000 to 10,000-word. Nevertheless, articles of around 1,500 to 3,000-word also performed well on average.

This trend means that producing long-form blogs will help you get more people to share your blog posts, establish yourself, and stand out from the crowd. Although the research shows 3,000 to 10,000-word articles as the most shared content on average, I’m not saying you should create 3,000-word and above.

Instead, make sure to at least create 1,000 to 2,000-word blog content. Some time ago, I declined a guest post from a contributor who wanted me to publish a 500-word blog. There was no value in the article because it ended even before it started.

3: Mention Influencers in Your Blog Post

By mentioning Influencers, you are building relationships and also using leaders and experts in your niche market to promote your blog content.

“Influencers work hard to cultivate relationships and maintain their position as leaders within their niche. Partnering with influencers in your industry helps get your message in front of the right audience and accelerates conversions.” – Andrea M. Lehr

As Andrea noted, you are partnering with influencers in your niche by mentioning them in your content. This approach will help you get your blog content in front of millions of the right audience, accelerate conversion, and increase social media shares.

Hence, mention their names in your article where appropriate. Quote their posts if relevant to what you’re writing, and get them notified when your content is published. You can inform them about your blog via emails, social media direct messages (DMs), their blog’s contact page, etc.

Creating less valuable blog content will give your audience a wrong impression about your brand. And it can result in less readership and social shares. #contentmarketing #bloggingtip #blogpost #blog Click To Tweet

But how can you find influencers in your niche to mention in your blog content?

There are many ways to find influencers, and there are numerous tools that can help you point out influencers in your Industry. Check out this post by Andrea Lehr for information on how to identify influencers. One excellent tool I’m so in love with is BuzzSumo.

This app has exciting features that let you find both content ideas and influencers in your industry. Buzzsumo identifies trending topics, content that interest your readers, track your competitors, and identify influencers in your niche.

Followerwonk by Moz is another fantastic tool you can use to discover influencers in your niche. It enables you to locate influencers and also view your competitors’ followers.

Furthermore, according to Neil Patel, posts with images get 18% more clicks, 89% more likes, 150% extra retweets on Twitter than posts without visuals. Here is a graphic from Neil Patel’s content on the CoSchedule blog indicating the performance of tweets with images VS tweets without visuals.

You can say the same about blogs shared on Facebook and other social media channels with images and those without photos. Generally, blog content with images gets more engagement, increase your readership, and more shares.

6: Invest in Your Blog Content

All social media platforms have social media advertising channels to help extend the reach of your blog posts and content marketing campaigns. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, to name a few. These social media platforms have amazing promotional marketing packages to help maximize your content marketing strategy.

Therefore, take advantage of the various advertising platforms available to boost your blog content for more social media shares and readership. Using a number of these ad channels is crucial to your blog posts success because they will interact with your targeted audience.

And in return you get:

7: Create a Round-Up or Resource Post

When you want to create a round-up post, make sure that you reach out to the experts you want to include in your post. Build a connection and also, after publishing your material, reach out and inform them either by email or via social media that your content is live.

In this way, they will be glad to share it with their audience. Their followers will extend its reach by promoting it further to their friends and followers. Additionally, when you share it on social media, mention each of them in your social post.

See the example in the tweet below for inspiration. Tag the people you added to your post. They will get a notification and retweet the content with their followers.

Notwithstanding, you can also create a resource post. And similarly, you need to contact the owners of the resources you want to include in your post before you start developing your article and after you publish your content. It will allow them to know when the material is live and get involved in sharing it.

Using emails is one of the best ways to reach your targets with optimal results. This strategy will increase visibility and also enable you to build lasting business relationships and attract new business opportunities.

Thus, when you post the article on social media, tag the resources you added in the post, and contact the owners.

8: Offer Incentives to Get More People to Share Your Blog Posts

One powerful way to get more eyeballs on your posts and increase social media shares is to provide incentives. Share your material across social media and offer new inducements to move your audience to share your posts.

You can offer:

  • Gift cards
  • Coupons
  • Special offers
  • Discounts
  • Etc.

It makes sense to provide such stimulus because it is human nature that people love free items and discounted goods. This step will motivate your targets to share your blog content further across social media.

Throughout the years, video contents have sized the world of marketing by storm. Marketers now consider videos as the most valuable type of content on the web because video materials have the potential to boost your blog’s marketability to over 100%.

The analysis revealed that not everyone loves to read written blog posts. Some users may read your article a little, scroll down, and move on. In this situation, they will not share your essay because they feel it’s not engaging.  However, a mix of video materials will boost engagement and dwell time.

So leverage the trend and try the best to blend your blog posts with videos. A survey indicates that a regular user spends 88% more time watching a video than reading text materials. The same report states that videos increase email click-through rates by 200-300%.

Moreover, 64% of those interviewed noted that video materials have a significant influence on their purchasing behavior. They are more likely to buy a product only after watching the product’s video. HubSpot also indicates that 43% of consumers want to see more video content.

In addition, 74℅ of social media marketers say visual content is their primary social media marketing strategy. Consequently, create fascinating video content that will engage your audience. It might be a tutorial video, product launch, behind the scene, etc.

Produce any video content that will add value to your audience and invite them to share your blogs.

Easy peasy, and it woks like a charm!

Anil Agarwal · April 11, 2018 at 8:37 am

Great post Moss,
I love how simple and actionable you made the entire step of getting people to share your blog posts.
One of the happiest moment of every blogger and writer is seeing his blog post being massively shared on some of the popular social media on the internet. This is especially if it’s a new blogger who does not yet have any influence online.
But in order to gain those massive social shares, the content you want to be shared must really worth it. You must start by first of all creating the type of content that people will find interesting, amazing, informative, entertaining, and most of all…..share worthy.
If your content lacks any of these important elements, it will never get shared by anyone, except by only your family members of cause.
Also, like you rightly said, you have to make it easy for them to share it, and that is by having social share buttons installed on some strategic places on your blog. If you don’t have those buttons, even if someone eventually decide to share the post, he will not be able to.
Apart from that, I also agree with every other point you made here.
Thanks for sharing.

    Moss Clement · April 11, 2018 at 3:22 pm

    Hi Anil,
I’m so glad that you like the post. I totally agree with you that for your content to get shared by others, you must ensure that you create high-quality content.
Content that adds value, entertaining, etc. These types of articles get the most shares.

I so much appreciate your coming by and contribute to the conversation

Jamaley Hussain · April 10, 2018 at 5:29 am

Hi Moss,
No doubt this is really a great article. every time I get new, unique and fresh content. Yes, when anyone read and shares your content it will give more happiness to any other things.
Audience engagement on content is very important with a long content post.
Thanks for sharing with us.

    Moss Clement · April 11, 2018 at 3:09 pm

    Hi Jamaley,
Thank you for your honest comments. I appreciate the fact that you agree that audience engagement is very important. But you also are aware that you cannot get or attract engagement on your blog posts if you aree not producing quality content.

Google loves the quality, long-form content because they’re more in-depth and well researched.

Thank you to contributing to the conversation.

Navin Rao · April 9, 2018 at 5:19 am

Hi Moss,
Useful tips, that’s right the lazy people like me always hesitate to share the content on multiple platforms. Which is big No for meeting with the success online.
I do agree, mentioning the influencers works well and is working for many.

As a high-quality content is always appreciated. Thanks for the amazing tips, these points are really useful for content to get shared and get viral on Social Media.

Have a great day ahead!

    Moss Clement · April 11, 2018 at 3:03 pm

    Hi Navin,
You’re right on track my friend. Everybody including Google loves quality content. So if you can consistently produce high-quality content that adds value to your readers, they will read and share it with their friends and followers. That’s vitality.

Thanks a lot, Navin for coming by and commenting. Hope to see you so again.

Sanjeev · April 8, 2018 at 4:01 pm

Hi Moss,

Great article. I really like the long-form content but it has to be on the mark. It’s really easy to add too much noise to the content for just completing 2000 words but it won’t keep the audience attention.

Another kind of posts where I have good success is a problem-solving tutorial. They are a very good way to generate quality backlinks and social share.

– Sanjeev

    Moss Clement · April 8, 2018 at 4:38 pm

    Hi Sanjeev,
It’s so great to have you here in my space. I certainly agree with you. Some just add random words or write less informative articles just to up their word count. But they fail to understand that the essence of your content is to add value and retain your readership.

Moreover, as you mentioned tutorials are remarkably great in attracting more clicks and social shares because everyone is looking for a way or solution to solve their problems. If you can provide your readers with a solution, they’re more likely to share your post.

Thank you Sanjeev do coming by and contributing to the conversation.

Lisa P Sicard · April 8, 2018 at 9:21 am

HI Moss, thanks for the reminder on doing video. I keep saying it but I need to do it!
I’ve upped my word count on most of my newer posts and I need to update older ones.
I think if you make it easier for others to share – with click to tweets ,etc it really helps to spread your posts via social media. And have your handle in the field too! So many miss that one. It takes time to go back and find out their Twitter handle before you share.
Thanks for sharing and have a great day Moss!

    Moss Clement · April 8, 2018 at 4:30 pm

    Hi Lisa,
You’re right on track Lisa, embedding a click to tweet on your posts is a great way to increase social share on twitter. I installed a click to tweet app but it didn’t come out well so I deactivated and uninstalled it.

So tell me, which click to tweet are you currently using?

Thanks so much for coming by and commenting Lisa. Much appreciated?!

Hi Moss,

Wow, you really shared some great stuff here. It was kind of a wake up call for me. I’ve been so busy lately that I’m rushing through my social media posts. I’m not taking the time to write long-form content like I should.

I need to check on BuzzSumo and Followerwonk. I like anything that will provide me with trending topics and content that matches my interest. 🙂

I’ve used social media ads to promote my web services and eBook but never thought to promote blog content – that is definitely something I should take action on.

I’m slow to the video content game – I have a fear of getting in front of the camera but I’m working on it. 🙂

Thank you for putting such an informative post together! I really enjoyed reading it.

By the way, I’m trying Statusbrew! As soon as I saw that I can color code my scheduled posts, I was hooked! 🙂

Thank you bro. I’m happy you like it. Quality is the way to go in virtually all areas of marketing. Quality helps you build trust, increase your readership, … And get you more social shares.

Hey bro,
Just a pinch of salt to this great post:
Using stats in your content and/or numbers in post titles makes it go viral on social media. People are just addicted to figures in this way 😉 That’s just human nature.

I hope you are having a great week

    Moss Clement · April 5, 2018 at 8:12 am

    Hi Enstine,
You’re right about that. As humans we love to pinpoint the numbers. We always want to know a number of ways to get things done, as well as statistics to prove our claim. So, using numbers and statistics in our content is a great way to create sharable content.

Thanks a lot for contributing to the conversation.

    Hi Darleen,

You’re right on target. Make sure to inform the influencers you mention in your article about the post and them to help you share it with their audience as well.

It will help you get noticed and establish yourself and your brand.

Video is taking over the Internet. Creating videos is a game changer.

Thanks so much Darleen. You’re an angel!

I tried to visit your website just right now but it would not open. I can’t get access to your site.

It shows a 403 access denied. Fix it please, or contact your hosting provider.
