8 Powerful Ways To Get Your Blog Content Shared On Social Media

Do you feel a measure of satisfaction when others share your blog content on social media sites? Certainly, you do!
It gives you much joy and a sense of accomplishment to know that people are reading and sharing your blog content.

Honesty, I can’t really express how much joy I felt when I saw my first ever blog post on medium, liked and shared on Twitter more than 30 times on its 2nd day on Twitter. The excitement urges you on to do even more of what you’re doing – create more quality blog content.

However, some articles do not scale through in terms of social sharing. They fail to get the share counts they deserve. Why? A survey by CoSchedule tells us why they’re not getting more social media shares. The study indicates that 77℅ of respondents share their blog content only three times or less.

That is disappointing, isn’t it?

You want your blog posts shared on various social networks to get you noticed and establish yourself as an authority in your industry.
How can you get your blog posts shared on various social media platforms?

Here are 8 simple steps to help you get others to share your blog posts across social media sites.

#1• Create Compelling Blog Content

Great content is the key to content marketing success. In fact, that is why they say content is king. If you create compelling blog content with the right keywords and the right promotion, this will dramatically skyrocket your social media sharing.

Here is what Brian Sutter said about the need to create compelling content:

“If you do enough promotion, people will take a look at your content. Once they engage with it and find it to be less than great, you’ll have made a bad impression on them. And they’ll remember the experience. If you continue to promote weak content, you’ll be training your audience to ignore you.”  — Brian Sutter

This is so true because, creating blog content that is less valuable will give your audience a wrong impression about you, which can result in less readership and social shares. Thus, you need to come up with blog content that will add value to your target audience.

However, be mindful of the fact that a compelling content comes handy with an irresistible headline. Ensure your content headline is captivating. This way, Your audience is more likely to share your blog content on social media channels.

#2• Create Long-form Content

It is important that you create long-form content because they are more in-depth, well researched with amazing value. Study shows that on average, long-form content performs remarkably well than short-form content in terms of social media shares.

The chart below, by OkDork and CoSchedule, shows the performance of both long-form content and short-form content on share counts on social media.

8 Powerful Ways To Get Your Blog Content Shared On Social Media

The content length that gets the most shares is 3,000 to 10,000-word content. However, there is other longer content of around 2,000 to 3,000-word that also performed well on average. The chart also shows tons of short-form content of about 500-word being published regularly.

This simply means that you have a better chance of establishing yourself and stand out from the crowd as an expert and authority in your niche. The research shows 3,000 to 10,000-word articles as the most shared content on average. I’m not saying you should create 3,000-word content and above.

Rather, make sure to at least create 1,000 to 2,000-word blog content. In fact, two weeks ago I declined a guest post from a contributor who wanted me to publish a 500-word blog content about Instagram marketing. There was no value in the post because it ended even before it started. The post you’re reading right now is over 2,000-words.

As Andrea pointed out in his quote above, you are effectively partnering with influencers in your niche by mentioning them in your content. This will help you get your blog content in front of millions of the right audience, accelerate conversion, and increase social media shares.

Hence, mention their names in your blog content where appropriate. Quote their posts if relevant to what you’re writing, and get them notified when your content is published. You can notify them about your blog content via emails, social media messages, DM, contact page, etc.

    1. Hi Enstine,
You’re right about that. As humans we love to pinpoint the numbers. We always want to know a number of ways to get things done, as well as statistics to prove our claim. So, using numbers and statistics in our content is a great way to create sharable content.

In almost every other blog post I write, I do mention high quality influencers in my nice. Not only does it increase readership of the blog, but more importantly, it does help my readers to get more information from others mentioned.

    1. Hi Donna,
I agree with you, and I have noticed that you mention influencers a lot in your articles which helps to give it more exposure and readership.

I actually learned that techniques after reading some of your post, Sue Anne’s and Ryan Biddulph.

Thank you Ryan for contributing to the conversation?:-)

  8. Thanks for sharing such beautiful insights with us.

Expect Points 3 & 6, I am doing most of it apart from, I will utilize these guidelines to Write next post on my blog.

  9. Of the large blogs I visited, they write very long and detailed. No wonder many big blogs often get tremendous traffic through social media. I agree with the second point of your writing (# 2 • Create Long-form Content). Thanks Moss ….

    1. Hi Jamiel,
Yes, longform content are remarkably great and google loves these types of content because they’re well researched and in-depth.

Thank you for coming by and commenting .

  10. Hi Moss,

Wow, you really shared some great stuff here. It was kind of a wake up call for me. I’ve been so busy lately that I’m rushing through my social media posts. I’m not taking the time to write long-form content like I should.

I need to check on BuzzSumo and Followerwonk. I like anything that will provide me with trending topics and content that matches my interest. 🙂

I’ve used social media ads to promote my web services and eBook but never thought to promote blog content – that is definitely something I should take action on.

I’m slow to the video content game – I have a fear of getting in front of the camera but I’m working on it. 🙂

Thank you for putting such an informative post together! I really enjoyed reading it.

By the way, I’m trying Statusbrew! As soon as I saw that I can color code my scheduled posts, I was hooked! 🙂

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Hi Cori,
You can imagine my joy knowing that this post is valuable to you. It should be on your radar to create long-form content because Google loves them. They’re more in-dept and informative.

I agree Cori, not everyone loves to be in front of the camera, but which time and practice you’ll get used to it.

And certainly, the features of Statusbrew are incredible.

Thanks a lot Cori for coming by and commenting.

  11. Hi Zeeshan,
I’m so glad that you find the article useful and informative, and that you’re learning a lot here.

That’s what we are here for, to provide help and solutions the best we can.

Thanks a lot of coming and commenting.

  12. HI Moss, thanks for the reminder on doing video. I keep saying it but I need to do it!
I’ve upped my word count on most of my newer posts and I need to update older ones.
I think if you make it easier for others to share – with click to tweets ,etc it really helps to spread your posts via social media. And have your handle in the field too! So many miss that one. It takes time to go back and find out their Twitter handle before you share.
Thanks for sharing and have a great day Moss!

    1. Hi Lisa,
You’re right on track Lisa, embedding a click to tweet on your posts is a great way to increase social share on twitter. I installed a click to tweet app but it didn’t come out well so I deactivated and uninstalled it.

So tell me, which click to tweet are you currently using?

Thanks so much for coming by and commenting Lisa. Much appreciated?!

  13. Hi Moss,

Great article. I really like the long-form content but it has to be on the mark. It’s really easy to add too much noise to the content for just completing 2000 words but it won’t keep the audience attention.

Another kind of posts where I have good success is a problem-solving tutorial. They are a very good way to generate quality backlinks and social share.

    – Sanjeev

    1. Hi Sanjeev,
It’s so great to have you here in my space. I certainly agree with you. Some just add random words or write less informative articles just to up their word count. But they fail to understand that the essence of your content is to add value and retain your readership.

Moreover, as you mentioned tutorials are remarkably great in attracting more clicks and social shares because everyone is looking for a way or solution to solve their problems. If you can provide your readers with a solution, they’re more likely to share your post.

Thank you Sanjeev do coming by and contributing to the conversation.

  14. Hi Moss,
Useful tips, that’s right the lazy people like me always hesitate to share the content on multiple platforms. Which is big No for meeting with the success online.
I do agree, mentioning the influencers works well and is working for many.

As a high-quality content is always appreciated. Thanks for the amazing tips, these points are really useful for content to get shared and get viral on Social Media.

    Have a great day ahead!

    1. Hi Navin,
You’re right on track my friend. Everybody including Google loves quality content. So if you can consistently produce high-quality content that adds value to your readers, they will read and share it with their friends and followers. That’s vitality.

Thanks a lot, Navin for coming by and commenting. Hope to see you so again.

  15. Hi Moss,
No doubt this is really a great article. every time I get new, unique and fresh content. Yes, when anyone read and shares your content it will give more happiness to any other things.
Audience engagement on content is very important with a long content post.
    Thanks for sharing with us.

    1. Hi Jamaley,
Thank you for your honest comments. I appreciate the fact that you agree that audience engagement is very important. But you also are aware that you cannot get or attract engagement on your blog posts if you aree not producing quality content.

Google loves the quality, long-form content because they’re more in-depth and well researched.

Thank you to contributing to the conversation.

  16. Great post Moss,
I love how simple and actionable you made the entire step of getting people to share your blog posts.
One of the happiest moment of every blogger and writer is seeing his blog post being massively shared on some of the popular social media on the internet. This is especially if it’s a new blogger who does not yet have any influence online.
But in order to gain those massive social shares, the content you want to be shared must really worth it. You must start by first of all creating the type of content that people will find interesting, amazing, informative, entertaining, and most of all…..share worthy.
If your content lacks any of these important elements, it will never get shared by anyone, except by only your family members of cause.
Also, like you rightly said, you have to make it easy for them to share it, and that is by having social share buttons installed on some strategic places on your blog. If you don’t have those buttons, even if someone eventually decide to share the post, he will not be able to.
Apart from that, I also agree with every other point you made here.
    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hi Anil,
I’m so glad that you like the post. I totally agree with you that for your content to get shared by others, you must ensure that you create high-quality content.
Content that adds value, entertaining, etc. These types of articles get the most shares.

I so much appreciate your coming by and contribute to the conversation

    1. You’re most welcome, John. I’m so glad you like the article. Yes, video content plays a crucial role in your marketing campaigns. A recent research shows that by 2019 video content will account for over 80% of all traffic – which shows the need to leverage it.

  17. Wonderful post, Moss!

You have made this an exceptional post on getting more shares on blog content. I would say that writing an excellent piece of content and mentioning influencers do make a lot of difference. Even, both of these points further increase the total pageviews because when the content is perfectly written, and has enough content people are more likely to click the links, and read other relevant posts.

  18. Woah! I’m reɑlly loving the template/theme ⲟff this site.
Ӏt’s simple, yet effective. A lot of tіmes іt’s hard to get that “perfect balance” ƅetween superb
usability аnd visual appeal. I muzt say thаt you’νe done a awesome job
with this. Αlso, thе blog loads extremely fɑst for me օn Chrome.
    Superb Blog!
