Use These 8 Powerful Tips to Repurpose Your Old Blog Posts

What if I told you that there are simple ways you can repurpose your blog posts, extend the life of your content, and drive massive traffic to your website. Would you give it a thought? Bytheway, why would you want to repurpose old posts?

Perhaps, you would. But the truth is that you can rework your old articles and other content types in a few steps, improve SEO and attract a new audience.

In fact, it is interesting to know that success in content marketing requires consistently creating and publishing high-quality content that your target market will love.

But, it’s  sometimes challenging for many bloggers and content marketers to regularly come up with fresh high-quality content due to a variety of reasons.

Thus, consider these questions:

  • Are you finding it difficult to come up with new blog topic ideas?
  • Do have a problem with creating content frequently?
  • Are you experiencing writer’s block?
  • Do you want to repurpose your old blog posts or content but doesn’t know how?

Your content marketing problem could be any of the above mentioned reasons. This is where repurposing your old blog content comes to play.

Reworking your posts is one of the best and easiest ways to come up with fresh high-quality content.

However, before you start reworking your blog posts, please take note of the quote below;

Repurposing blog content doesn’t just mean that you reuse an old content again and again. True content repurposing requires that you alter a post to make it fresh and appealing to a new audience.

What are the benefits of repurposing old blogs?

It’s much rewarding to repurpose your old content because it will help you create stunning content that will increase your reach – in terms of new audiences and potential clients, and set you up as an expert in less time.

The benefits of repurposing blog content are astonishing.

Here are some of the benefits of repurposing your blogs:

  • Improves SEO – Several pieces of blog posts around the same topic creates an avenue to target the right keyword and keyword-phrases. Furthermore, if your repurposed blog content is taken outside from your blog, it will help you attract quality backlinks to your blog or website.
  • Reach a wider audience – Your original piece of content might have reach a segment or small number of your buyer persona. But reworking the same content in different formats allows you to reach a wider audience, which in turn will help you drive more website traffic.
  • Build your credibility and  m you an expert – Repurposing content on a topic and republishing it on different platforms will help to build your credibility, and set you up as an expert in your industry.
  • More social shares – Reworking old content offers you the opportunity to create valuable blog posts that get more shares on social media, drives tons of traffic, and rank high on search engines.

Hence, it’s important to revisit your old posts ones a while to see how you can brush and clean them up.

And here’s another graphic by the HubSpot that shows the power of repurposing and republishing your old blogs.

Repurpose old blog posts

So then…

How can you repurpose your content?

In this article, you’re going to discover 8 unique and easy ways to repurposing blog content.

1• Rewrite your best and underperforming posts

Your best posts are blog posts that are forever relevant to your targeted audience, clients, and industry.

These types of posts are referred to as evergreen content, because no matter how much time that passes by, these content remain relevant.

Leverage such posts and spice them up – either by changing the written format, such as fonts, graphs, images, etc.

Remove dead links, update references, and add detailed data to backup the information you already have.

These could be current industry facts, latest trends, testimonials, case study, etc.

Furthermore, rework underperforming posts to make them more attractive and appealing to your ideal reader.

Find out why the article didn’t perform well when I was originally published. Fill in the loops, use LSI keywords to boost your search engine optimization (SEO) campaign.

Add  graphics and other relevant visuals to make your article more interesting to read.

2• Turn old post into Infographic

Recent studies shows that blog post readers pay more attention to contents with images.

For instance, Infographics get 3x more social media shares than other content types.

Why the remarkable increase? Simply put, people love to follow directions with text and illustrations.

Over 323% of those who followed these type of content perform remarkably better.

Another study reveal that 7.6% of marketers points out that stock photos had great impact on their content marketing campaign, while over 41% of marketers said that infographics performed best.

Consequently, look for your evergreen contents and convert them to infographics.

I know you might be thinking, how can I create infographics?

It’s easier to turn posts to infographic than you might think. There are lots of tools that can help you create stunning infographics with old posts.

These include, but not limited to the following:

Withyour evergreen blog content in place, go ahead and create the best of infographics and see your social media shares skyrocket.

3• Create a newsletter or email series

You may have written some breathtaking blog posts on a particular topic over time that you can use for your email series or newsletter.

It could be on a topic such as “blogging success.”

Hence, you already have the detailed instructions your email recipients are looking for right there in the posts you’ve written on that topic.

With these posts in place, put them up in bite-size and send them out to recipients with links back to your blog.

You could make it “15 days blogging success.”

When that’s done, use the services of MailChimp, Campaign Monitor, ActiveCampaign or AWeber to send out your blog posts email series.

This is an effective way to get more eyeballs to your blog content and increase your readership.

For example, Jeff Bullas, Adam Connell, Janice Wald, Elna Cain, Matt WoodWard, Joh Morrow, CoSchedule, PostPlanner, NightWatch, Neal Schaffer’s MaximizeSocialBusiness, and Marc Guberti are just a few expert content marketers who are using this strategy.

I know so because I’m a subscriber to their newsletters respectively.

However, if you’re still struggling to grow your email list, I recommend ThriveLeads, it one of the best email list building plugin for WordPress.

This method of repurposing old content is “epic” because it offers you the opportunity to gather new leads and more subscribers.

Top 8 Tips to Repurpose Your Old Blog Posts for Optimal Traffic

4• Use numbered posts to create individual content

List posts are undeniably top of the gear in content marketing. Why?

They give readers a sense of what to look for in a post, such as:

  • 100 ways to skyrocket your content marketing campaign
  • 12 steps to blogging success
  • 7 proven ways to grow your blog
  • 10 steps to increase your blog traffic, etc.

This strategy makes list posts more clickable.

So, take your best list posts and turn each list into its own blog post. You can do this by expanding more on each list or point you’re  working on.

Add more information, use relevant examples, more images, use statistics and graphs. These will help you create terrific blog content from each list.

5• Create podcast from old post

A lot of people hate reading text content. They just don’t have the patience to seat back for about 10, 15, or even 20mins to read and digest an entire article.

Take advantage of that and turn your old blog content into podcasts.

Podcasting is an excellent method to repurpose old posts because it creates a whole new avenue to connect with a new and larger audience, as well as open the way for new clientele.

The benefits of Podcasts are outstanding.

For instance, when you make a podcast, you’ve effectively created a new blog content for your blog, not a text content but an audio content for those who hate to read text content.

Adding a transcript will be fascinating because it will help to attract more listeners.

Use this as an example and create your own podcast from old blog posts.

6• Create a video series

How to repurpose your old blog posts

Why should I create video content?

Recent studies shows that 59℅ of business executives said they would prefer to watch videos than to read text content.

The study further reveals that by 2019, video will account for 80℅ of all internet traffic.

The research also shows that video has the capability to improve your marketing reach and increase duration, because it transforms users into promoters and advocates.

This is true because the research revealed that 92℅ of mobile video users reshare videos with fans and friends on all channels – thereby creating over 1,200℅ more shares on social media sites than text and image content combined.

So, just as you are taking advantage of old posts to create podcasts and other content types, ensure to create video series from old blog post and  upload to sites such as: DailyMotion, YouTube, Skillshare,   Vimeo, etc,.

7• Turn old posts into complete guide

I’m assuming that you have a number of posts on a particular topic, such as Freelancer Writing.

Take those posts on the subject of Freelance Writing and turn them into a complete guide.

It could be that you’ve written a number of posts on freelance writing, such as:

  • How to become a better Freelance Writer
  • How to get high-paying Freelance Writing Clients
  • 5 ways to scale your Freelance Writing career, etc,.

Rework those posts and turn them into a Complete Freelance Writing Success Guide, then you can republish it on your blog, as a guest post on other blogs, use it for your email newsletter, opt-in form, etc,.

Reworking old blog content is the fastest way to create new high-quality content that will help you generate more leads, increase traffic and shares, get you more subscribers, boost ROI, and so on.

8• Turn old posts into e-course

As writers we tend to create content that are educational, informative, and add value to our readers.

People are constantly searching for one solution to another.

They’re frequently searching for different ways to learn and acquire knowledge about a subject or something of importance to their lives.

As a result, learning has become an essential part of every day living. That’s why we keep writing in order to help educate as many people as possible.

With that said, take your old blog content, edit them appropriately, remove out-dated trends, look for areas that are missing and fill them up with more relevant information, and transform them into an e-course.

Before turning your old content into an e-course, have it at the back of your mind that there’s a big difference between reading and learning.

Having this concept in mind will help you create an in-depth educational, training e-course that people will love to buy.

Nikola Roza · November 17, 2018 at 11:05 pm

Hi Moss,
Thank you for writing this guide on content re-purposing. It was interesting to read and I learned a lot, especially of the possibility of turning blog posts into podcasts.
I never thought of that.
One question:
What is, in your opinion, the best way to start with content re-purposing? Because, obviously, you can’t start doing everything at once.
What is the one thing that’s relatively easy to do, but produces visible results (traffic, sales, brand building etc.,)?
Thank you for your reply:)
Nikola Roza

    Moss Clement · November 18, 2018 at 4:06 pm

    Hi Nikola,
I’m so happy you like the article. However, to start repurposing your blog post, I recommend you find your best performing post and create an infographic, then embed a code that users can copy and paste on their site. That way you’ll get a link back to your blog or website which will improve your content visibility and search rankings. There are tools you can use to create infographics, such as Canva. Another easiest way is to rewrite your best performing blog post. What you have to do is to add more relevant information to your existing blog content with graphics to proof what you’re saying. Make it an ultimate guide post that contains all the information related to the topic with related keywords to improve seo and Google rankings. In this way, you will get more quality backlinks to your content and more engagement.

Ah, we also love to re-purpose our content, especially on Facebook when we experiment with the format of our posts and the target audience. Very insightful piece, Moss 🙂 And turning the old content into the online course – that’s something I would not think of but sounds like a plan if done well 🙂

    Moss Clement · November 15, 2018 at 5:15 pm

That’s right, Kas. Reworking your content helps in many ways. For example, this article was originally published November 2017, that a year ago, and at that time you didn’t see or read it. But because I updated and republish it, you had the opportunity to read and comment on it. That’s goes to show you how repurposing works and why it important to your content marketing strategy.

Thank you for coming by and adding to the conversation!

Sathish Arumugam · November 13, 2018 at 12:22 pm

Great post, I think is well overlooked. Traffic is one of the mina things that most startup will face. I actually do this by taking old expert roundup post and get more tips from them to republish. It will bring a new audience to the older content and its freshness will be good for your loyal reader.

    Moss Clement · November 13, 2018 at 1:35 pm

You’re right, Sathish. For example, when this article was originally published a year ago, you didn’t see it none did you interact with it, but I just updated and republished it and here you’re engaging with it. So, it practical science that generate real-time results. Repurposing/updating your old and republishing it will do you more good than harm.

Thank you to your added contribution!

Sophie Thomas · November 13, 2018 at 10:35 am

Hello Moss,

The technique of restructuring the old blog post is really effective. As you give the Brian example, He actually uses this technique very effectively.

As you said, It’s really difficult to come up with the new blog post ideas and creating content frequently. These things still trouble to most of the blogger and marketers. So, there is nothing bad to repurpose the old content. It makes your article even more impressive.

Also, adding infographics, podcasts, and more live example can help to take your old blog to the next level. It’s really good to read this, thank you so much for sharing.

    Moss Clement · November 13, 2018 at 1:40 pm

    Hi Sophie,
Nice to see you hear at Moss Media, and I’m happy you agree with the tips. Brian Dean is and expert in this area, which is why he is always reworking most of his post. And the results are clearly seen. Now think about it this way; when I first published this post a year ago, you weren’t there to engage with it, but today you’re engaging with it and adding to the discussion. That is the power of reworking and republishing old blog content.

Thank you for coming by and commenting!

Bikram Kalsi · November 13, 2018 at 6:48 am

Hey Moss,

Very interesting article and a really awesome way to repurpose old content.
Updating the old posts and keeping them with the par to current trend is also very helpful when it comes to SEO.

    Moss Clement · November 13, 2018 at 1:50 pm

    Hi Bikram,
There is no doubt about that. Upswing your old content will without fail make it fresh and more appealing as well as interesting to read because you must have removed tips and irrelevant content that makes it boring and replaced with what’s trending in your industry.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting!

#4 is super clever, Moss. Gotta love writing an in-depth list post and chopping it up into 5 or 10 posts across your blog, or through guest posts. Excellent advice here buddy.

    Moss Clement · November 13, 2018 at 2:02 pm

    Hi Ryan,

That’s would be incredibly remarkable, because it allows you to create multiple blog posts around the same topic, which will dramatically increase engagement and traffic.

Thanks a lot for your contribution.

Donna Merrill · November 12, 2018 at 3:36 pm

Hi Moss

This is a classic.

So many ways to repurpose your blog content.

I guess my favorite is doing a video series.

And another good one is this… Pinterest images with article excerpts as the image… or even reworked into a really compact infographic.

So many great ideas and using even just ONE of them will really boost your traffic flow.

    Moss Clement · November 13, 2018 at 2:08 pm

    Hi Donna,
You’re an expert in the blogging industry and your tips are phenomenal. In fact, Pinterest is not only a social media site, but also a search engine platform that can drive massive website traffic, and if one should apply your tips and create Pinterest images using old content or create compact infographics, the results can be terrific.

Thanks a lot of your contribution, Donna!
