5: Establish a Pitching Method for Each Client
Do you have a pitching strategy? Pitching would-be clients is one of the best ways to find high-paying freelance writing jobs. But creating a pitching strategy that works is not easy. In most cases, you realize that your pitches get rejected.
That is why you need to establish a pitching pattern for each platform. For instance, the pitch you send out to a connection on LinkedIn is not the same as a pitching a potential client using cold email marketing strategy. Both pitching methods require different tactics for optimal results.
There are four primary pitching methods you should master for success with your freelance career. The four are:
- Job Board Pitching
- Social Media (LinkedIn)
- Guest Posting
- Cold Emails
The “job board pitching” techniques come first because that’s where most freelance writers started. I started my freelance career by pitching to clients on job boards. Like I stated above, a job board pitch should include links to samples of your published work.
But when pitching social media connection like on LikedIn, it’s not necessary to add links to your samples until after you receive a positive response. Then in your follow up email, you can add links to your work.
In the same way, the cold email you send to eventual clients is not the type of pitch you’ll send to a blogger for guest posting opportunities. For more clarity, a cold pitching method requires that you do some research to define your target clients or businesses you want to pitch.
Guest posting involves building bonds before sending out your pitch. It works in a similar with social media pitching tactics.
