#1• Craft an Incredible Twitter Bio
In all social media sites, your bio is always the first place to start your optimization process to stand out from your competitors.
This being the case because when users want to follow you, the first place they look at is your bio.
If your bio is compelling and relevant, they will follow. In order words, your bio will tell other users to follow you or not.
You can create a personal or company bio. What is important is to guarantee that your bio stands out, and is relevant to what your target audience is looking for.
Therefore, when crafting your bio, guarantee that you upload an eye-catching image that clearly identifies and represents you or your brand positively.
Make sure to give a brief description of what you do, both on your headline and background sections.
Don’t forget to add a link to your website or product and services page.
Review your bio every few months to make sure that it is up-to-date.
#2• Pin Your Best Tweet
Twitter users will want to follow you for a number of factors, including the types of content you share on the platform.
So, it is crucial to analyze your tweets to find out which of your tweets are the best performing tweet on your feed.
Identify them, choose the best and pin it on your profile.
Your pinned tweet now becomes an important part of your Twitter marketing campaign because it will appear at the top of your profile and becomes the first tweet people see when they visit your profile.
What are the benefits of a pinned tweet?
As mentioned earlier, when you pin a tweet, it becomes the first tweet other users will see when they visit your profile.
The benefits of the pinned tweet are incredible. A pinned tweet will help you with the following:
- Boost brand awareness
- Generate Leads
- Convert more sales
- Increase website traffic
- Grow your email list, etc.
For example, Buffer generated 10x more leads from a pinned tweet as against a non-pinned tweet.
A pinned tweet gives visitors and prospects and overview of the quality and types of content you share on Twitter.
This insight will help users decide whether to follow you or not.

#3• Be Consistent and Active
Having a presence on Twitter is one thing, being consistent is just another thing altogether.
Why should you be consistent on Twitter?
Consistency helps you build trust with your target audience. Once they find you as a consistent player with high-quality content, they will surely follow.
They will even tweet and recommend you to their friends and followers.
Because she found that these incredible Twitter users are consistently posting valuable content. As a result, she built trust with them and recommend others to follow them by tweeting them.
#4• Evaluate Your Tweets
It is a good concept to often evaluate your tweets to decide what tweets interest your followers most.
If your followers engage most with tweets about your brand or company, keep tweeting those.
And if they engage most with tweets about inspirational quotes, keep tweeting those.
The point is to find what your target audience wants. The best way to go about it is to tweet a mix useful content about your niche with a blend of motivational and inspirational quotes.
Once you’re able to identify tweets that keep your target audience engaged, keep tweeting those. They’ll certainly engage with and follow you.
#5• Tweet at the Right Time
Consistency, as mentioned in section 3, doesn’t mean tweeting randomly. You have to figure out the best times to tweet when your target audience are sure to see and engage with your tweets.
From my experience, tweeting before 9:00 am when many Twitter users who have a 9 to 5 work schedule have not gone to work is great. Also tweet from 11:00am to 3:00pm. when they’re on lunch break. Many Twitter users use their lunch period to check out what’s happening on Twitter.
At this time there is a great chance they may see your tweets, engage, and follow you.
However, a study by Buffer shows the best times to tweet for massive engagement.

#6• Retweet & Follow Other Users
It is a good practice to follow other user and retweet them as well. So, search for your target audience and follow them.
How can you identify your target audience?
Use Twitter’s advanced search to search for and follow your target audience. It is clear that not all of them will follow you back.
But a good chunk of them will reciprocate and follow you. Twitter allows users to follow-up to a thousand (1000) followers each day. However, there’s been some recent changes on Twitter follow limit for each day.
Instead of following a 1000 users each day, Twitter now allows users to follow 950 followers each day. But I won’t recommend that. I recommend you follow between 100 ~200 users each day. Search for heavy-weights in your niche (those with thousands or millions of followers) and engage with them by retweeting their tweets, mention and follow them.
Add them to your list. Engage with them in whatever way possible. They may reciprocate by retweeting your tweet and follow you.
And guess what, once they retweet your tweet, you become visible to millions of potential followers who might end up following you.
Twitter’s advanced search will not give you all the options available so I’ll recommend ManageFlitter. You could use ManageFlitter to search and follow your target audience. ManageFlitter can identify a targeted audience, follow them, and at the same time keep up Twitter’s terms of service.
Other tools you can use in this regard are:
- SocialOomph, etc.
There are loads of other tools you can possibly use to grow your following. Further, the above-mentioned tools are capable of cleaning your profile for a healthier account.
However, we will discuss the cleaning process in the next article.
#7• Follow Followers to Grow Your Twitter Followers
This simply means that you should follow your competitor’s followers.
Why should you follow your competitors’ followers?
Simply put, all those following your competitors are already qualified as your potential target audience, because they have the same interest and are in the same niche market as you.
So following them gives you an added advantage in that they are more likely to follow you back, seeing that you share the same interest with them.
#8• Leverage Trending Topics in Your Niche
Another way to increase your Twitter followers is to look for what is trending on Twitter and take advantage of it.
Engage in Twitter chats on topics that will interest your buyer persona and contribute meaningfully to the discussions.
That way to put yourself / tweets in front of millions of potential followers.
#9• Use Hashtags and Keywords on Your Tweets
The use of hashtags and keywords on your tweets and on trending topics is a remarkable way to make your tweets visible to a wider audience.
Hashtags and keywords make your tweets easily be found and engage with. Why?
Because your use of hashtags and keywords will make your tweets stand out from among the rest, which will effectively make you become visible to millions of other Twitter users who in your niche.
These potential followers may end up following you.
But be mindful, not over-use hashtags as you might be viewed as a spammer. Thus, to avoid being viewed as a spammer, try to maintain a maximum of 3 or 4 hashtags pair tweet.
It is a great idea even more now that Twitter has extended its mini-blogging space from 140 to 280 characters. So leverage it.

#10• Use Call-to-Action
I have written a couple of articles where I mentioned the importance of using calls-to-action.
Call-to-action is an effective way to grow your Twitter followers because it tells users what you want them to do.
When you tell those in your niche to follow you, they get a look at your profile to find out if you’re worthy of being followed.
And if they find you as a follow-worthy person or brand, they certainly will follow you.
You could use phrases such as:
- Please follow my Twitter account
- Follow me on Twitter, etc.
This strategy works pretty well.
Implement these tips and let me know how they worked for you.
