1: Craft An Incredible Twitter Bio

In all social media sites, your bio is always the first place to start your optimization process to assist you to stand out from your competitors. This procedure being the case because when users want to follow you, the first place they look at is your bio.

If your bio is compelling and relevant, they will engage and follow you. In other words, your Twitter bio is a determining factor for whether other users will follow you or not. You can create a personal or company bio.

Nevertheless, what is essential is to guarantee that your bio is well-optimized, stands out, and is relevant to what your target audience is searching online.

Given this, when crafting your bio, guarantee that your Twitter bio will help you gain followers on Twitter by uploading an eye-catching image that clearly identifies and represents you or your brand positively. Make sure to give a brief description of what you do both on your headline and background sections.

Don’t forget to add a link to your website, product, and services page, or other landing pages. Furthermore, ensure that you review your bio every few months to keep it up-to-date.

2: Pin Your Best Tweet

Twitter users will want to follow you for several factors, including the types of content you share on the platform. So, it is crucial to analyze your tweets to find out which of your tweets are the best-performing ones on your feed.

The visual above is from my Twitter feed, and that’s a pinned tweet, which indicates my niche market. This step will help visitors to choose to follow me or not. Thankfully, that pinned tweet has helped me gain followers on Twitter who are interested in social media marketing.

For this reason, identify your best-performing content and pin it on your profile. In this way, your pinned tweet becomes a critical part of your Twitter marketing campaign because it will appear at the top of your profile and becomes the first tweet people see when they visit your profile.

What are the benefits of a pinned tweet?

As mentioned earlier, when you pin a tweet, it becomes the first tweet other users will see when they visit your profile. There are several benefits associated with a pinned tweet. As a result, a pinned tweet will help you with the following:

For example, Buffer generated 10x more leads from a pinned tweet against a non-pinned tweet. A pinned tweet gives visitors and prospective customers an overview of the quality and types of content you share on Twitter. This insight will enable users to decide whether to follow you or not and in most cases, you gain Twitter followers.

3: Be Consistent And Active to Enable You Get More Followers on Twitter

Having a presence on Twitter is one thing; being consistent is just another thing altogether.

Why should you be consistent on Twitter?

Consistency helps you build trust with your target audience. Once your audience finds you as a consistent player with high-quality content, they will surely follow, and in that way, you get more followers on Twitter.

They will even tweet and recommend you to their friends and followers. In consequence, if you ask me how to get more twitter followers, I would tell you to be active on the platform and share value.

Below are sample tweets from Lisa Sicard of InspireToThrive and Latrice Fowler, where they mentioned credible Twitter influencers to follow on social, respectively.

I’m honored to be on the list and thanks to you Latrice for the mention. But the question is; why did they create a list of worthy Twitter followers? Because they found that these incredible Twitter users are consistently posting valuable content. As a result, they built trust with them and recommend others to follow them by tweeting them.

4: Evaluate Your Tweets to Help You Gain Twitter Followers

Have you considered how to gain followers on Twitter or how to get twitter followers using tweet evaluation? It is an excellent idea to evaluate your tweets often to decide what content interest your followers most. If your followers engage most with tweets about your brand or company, keep tweeting those.

On the other hand, if your buyer persona engages most with tweets about inspiration and motivation, continue tweeting more of those.

The point is to find what your target audience needs from you. In this light, the best way to go about it is to tweet a mix of useful content about your niche with a blend of motivational and inspirational content. Then use Twitter analytics or other analytic tools to calculate your performance to find the best-performing tweets.

Once you’re able to identify posts that keep your target market engaged, ensure to continue tweeting those. Your audience will engage and assist you in getting more followers on Twitter.

5: Tweet At The Right Time to Boost Content Visibility and Maximize How to Gain Twitter Followers

Consistency, as mentioned in section 3, doesn’t mean tweeting randomly. You have to share valuable content and figure out the best times to tweet when your target audience will see and engage with your tweets.

From my experience, tweeting from 7:00 to 8:00 am before 9:00 am when many Twitter users who have a 9 to 5 work schedule have not gone to work is ideal. I also tweet from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, depending on your time zone when some users are on lunch break. Many Twitter users use their lunch period to check out what’s happening on Twitter.

At this time, there is a high chance they may see your tweets, engage, and the result is, you get more Twitter followers. However, a study by Buffer shows the best times to tweet for massive engagement, likes, and retweets.

How to Gain Twitter Followers Organically In 10 Effective Steps

Therefore, depending on your geo-location, try to pinpoint when it is best for you to tweet for increased traction that will aid your objective to gain followers on Twitter. Being consistent and tweeting at the right time will increase your chances of being followed.

6: Retweet & Follow Other Users

You may be wondering how retweeting and following other users aligns with how to get more followers on Twitter. It is an excellent practice to follow other users and retweet them as well since this practice will attract more Tweeps and help you get Twitter followers free and fast.

For this reason, search for your target audience, retweet, and follow them.

How can you identify your target audience?

To get twitter followers free, organically via retweets and following other users, you need to use the Twitter analytics free tool to analyze your target market to know who to engage with and support. Use Twitter’s advanced search to search for and follow your target audience.

Not all of them will follow you back; however, a good chunk of them will reciprocate and return the favor. Twitter allowed users to follow-up to a thousand (1000) followers each day. However, there’s been some recent changes on Twitter follow limit for each day.

Instead of following 1000 users each day, Twitter now allows users to follow 400 followers each day. But I won’t recommend that. I recommend you follow between 100 ~200 users each day. Search for heavy-weights in your niche (those with thousands or millions of followers) and engage with them by retweeting their tweets, mention, and follow them.

Add them to your list and engage with them in whatever way possible. They may reciprocate by retweeting your tweet and follow you. And guess what, once they retweet your tweet, you become visible to millions of potential followers who might end up following you.

Twitter’s advanced search will not give you all the options available, so I’ll recommend Manage Flitter. You could use Manage Flitter to search and follow your target audience. Manage Flitter can identify a targeted audience, track them, and at the same time, keep up Twitter’s terms of service.

Other tools you can use in this regard are:

  • Hootsuite
  • Buffer
  • Statusbrew
  • Crowdfire
  • SocialOomph, etc.

There are loads of other tools you can use to get more followers on Twitter. Further, the tools mentioned above are capable of cleaning your profile for a healthier account. However, we will discuss the Twitter cleaning processes in our next post.

7: Follow Followers to Get More Twitter Followers

This step means that you should follow your competitor’s followers. Granted, Will following other users’ audience help you address how to get more followers on Twitter? Yes, it will.

Why should you follow your competitors’ followers?

Put differently, your competitors’ followers are already qualified as your potential target audience because they have the same interest and are in the same niche market as you. Accordingly, following them gives you an added advantage in that they are more likely to return the favor, seeing that you share the same interest with them.

8: Use Trending Topics to Get More Followers On Twitter

Another excellent tip for how to get Twitter followers is to make the most of trending topics. Find what’s trending in your industry and take advantage of it. Use Twitter chats to engage your target audience on issues that interest them most. Contribute meaningfully to the discussions.

In that way, you will put yourself in front of millions of potential followers.

9: Use Hashtags and Keywords on Your Tweets

Will the use of hashtags and keywords better address how to get more followers on Twitter? Indeed, because these tools will make your tweets visible to a broader audience. Hashtags and keywords will help users to find your tweets easily. Why? Because hashtags and keywords boost your visibility.

These tools will make your tweets stand out from the rest and effectively make you visible to millions of other Twitter users who are searching for the keywords and using related hashtags. Hence, these potential followers may end up following you.

But be mindful not to over-use hashtags as you Twitter might view you as a spammer. Thus, to avoid that, try to maintain a maximum of 3 or 4 hashtags pair tweet. It is a great idea even more now that Twitter has extended its mini-blogging space from 140 to 280 characters. So leverage it.

10: Use Call-to-Action

I have written a couple of articles where I highlighted the need to use calls-to-action to boost CTR and how to optimize your CTA to increase conversation rates.

Call-to-action is an effective way to grow your Twitter followers because it tells users what you want them to do. When you ask those in your niche to follow you, they get a look at your profile to find out if you’re worthy of being followed.

And if they find you as a follow-worthy person or brand, they certainly will follow you. You could use phrases such as:

  • Please follow my Twitter account
  • Follow me on Twitter, etc.

This strategy works pretty well.

Hey Moss,
This article has everything we should understand about the Twitter. Thanks for sharing this very informative article.

I am followed by 136K genuine people on Twitter. I gained that many followers by Tweeting the right time of the day and by engaging with the people.

However, I have not been active on Twitter for few months, and more than 500+ people have unfollowed me weekly since then.

Thanks again.

Hey Moss,
Twitter is a very nice tool for getting a targetted traffic. For increasing the followers, I use tweepi, it is freemium service, where you can follow your competition’s followers. It also shows the follow back ratio, how active users are and other important stuff.
Thanks for sharing other important details as well. Keep up the good work.

This article made me feel like most people don’t give much thought to the different parts of their twitter account and upload pictures or write text just for the sake of doing it, as if in sleep.

You have isolated each part of a twitter account and analysed its importance and functionality in detail. Armed with this understanding we can make the best use of everything from bio to pinned tweets and beyond.

Thanks for sharing these tips. Have a great day!

    Moss Clement · April 1, 2018 at 2:35 pm

    Hi Fayyaz,
You are right on point. Many Twitter users have failed to pay more attention to their profiles section and optimize accordingly. As you mentioned in your comment, they write as though they’re sleeping while writing. And the images they use for their profile is not something to write home about.

In fact, I declined following many of such users who follow me on the platform. Hence, it is best to understand the best practices to help you grow your followers.

Thanks for visiting and commenting. Well appreciated.

Darleen I just checked your Twitter profile and found that your profile is not optimized. For example, I wanted to add you to my Twitter list but couldn’t figure where to add you because your you didn’t specify your specialty on your profile. As it is I can’t say exactly what you do.
You need to start from there and let users know what you do.
Are you a blogger, digital marketer, SEO expert, etc. Add it all there. Also add and optimize a background image.

Because I don’t know your expertise I decided to add you to my too content marketers.

Jane · March 26, 2018 at 10:26 am

Hey Moss,

Twitter is a great platform to both connect with new people (influencers as well as your potential target audience).

The only downside is that the lifetime of a tweet is much shorter than any other platform, in my opinion! Which is why tweeting at the right time matters a lot.

But by being consistent, you can surely reap great benefits. Thanks for sharing this awesome post 🙂

    Moss Clement · March 27, 2018 at 9:47 am

    Hi Jane,
You’re absolutely correct, Twitter is so fast. In fact, I have done friends on Facebook who are not on Twitter. When I asked why, the responded that everything on Twitter happens so fast.
But I believe that shouldn’t be a deterrent for anyone not to have a presence on Twitter. Twitter is a mini blogging platform and since the upgrade of 280 characters it has become remarkably great to present your brand message.

As you mentioned, tweeting at the right time and being consistent is Twitter’s best practices.

Thanks for coming by and commenting Jane.

Hey Moss,

Great tips and while I don’t know that much about Twitter, I do use it on a regular basis. Great tips for posting on a regular basis.

I’ve started using hashtags, but definitely could use some improvement in that area.

I’m working on it and slowly noticing my following grow. Just like anything else in blogging, it just takes time and consistent daily action.

Thanks for sharing these tips, I’ll be sure to pass them along.

Have a great day 🙂

    Moss Clement · March 27, 2018 at 9:35 am

    Hi Susan,
You’re absolutely correct. Consistency and patience is the key to your success. The use of hashtags is great because it help users easily find your posts. And if you share relevant content , they’re sure to follow you.

For example, I didn’t just follow you for the sake of it. I found your content relevant.

Please, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. We’re here for each other.

You are very correct. People follow and the next time you find out that they already unfollow you. There are many reasons involve. Some unfollow because they just want to get a lesser following and a much higher followers…
I won’t be taking in detail about the reasons why people on follow you on Twitter.

Hi Arfa,
The tips in this article are simple tips any one can implement and grow their followers.
Consistency is great and tweeting at the right time is remarkable because your target market are surely going to see your tweets, engage, and follow you.

There’s been much controversy about the amount of tweets per day. However, CoSchedule recommend 15 per day and 51 maximum per day. But I try to keep a balance of 15 ~20 per day from 1~5pm, excluding retweets.

Thanks so much Arfa for commenting!

By the way, how many tweets do you recommend every day?

Cori Ramos · March 22, 2018 at 1:32 am

Hi Moss,

I love Twitter. It’s my favorite social media platform. 🙂

Thanks for these great tips. I do most of them you mentioned but you reminded me to pin my best tweet. I don’t do that as often as I should.

What I have started doing more of is evaluating my stats and tweaking my tweets as I need to.

I attended Lisa’s Twitter chat last night. It was my first one so I didn’t provide any input. It was going so fast. But I did manage to RT some of the tweets. 🙂 I guess more practice is in order, LOL.

Thanks again for sharing these great tips with us! Hope you’re having a great week. 🙂

    Moss Clement · March 23, 2018 at 9:04 am

    Hi Cori,
Pinning your tweets is great because your pinned tweet is more like a window that gives your target market a glimpse of the type of content you share or in other words, what they’ll get if they choose to follow you.
So it is a great idea to pin your best performing tweets. I just recently changed a pinned tweet i had on my timeline for over a year.
You’re as well doing good by evaluating your stats. I suggest evaluating your tweets and mixing up your tweets as well to figure out what’s types of tweets your followers love the most.
Yes, Twitter chats are so fast because there are lots of other experts contributing to the conversation. But don’t worry, with time you’ll get used to it.

    Thanks so much for coming!

Donna Merrill · March 21, 2018 at 6:24 pm

Hi Moss,
Twitter has become my second favorite social media platform. This article is so great because there are some things I’m not doing that need to be done. Things like Follow me, fix my profile, etc.
However, whenever someone follows me I do follow them back. I know there is so much more for me to learn on Twitter, especially giving those calls to action! This helped me out so much and I thank you,

    Moss Clement · March 23, 2018 at 9:12 am

    Hi Donna,
Seeing you here on my space gives me joy of heart. Thank you. Yes, using calls-to-action on your tweets is a great way to get more followers. Ask your target followers to follow you. Have in mind that some people only take action when they’re told to do so. So tell them to follow.
You’re doing great by following those who follow you. It is a good rule of thumb to follow whoever followers you especially those in your niche. It shows concern and interest in the person. These can refer their friends to follow you as well.

    Thanks for commenting Donna.

Hi Moss, thank you for the mention here. I would add to add people to lists. I know when someone adds me to a list with a unique name, I go right over to the profile to see who they are and most likely will follow them 🙂
I love Twitter. It’s a great way to network and meet people with like minds and interests.
Have a fabulous day Moss!

    Hi Lisa,
List is equally a great way to grow your followers on Twitter. For someone to add you on his list means that he values what you’re doing as a marketer on Twitter. There is no better way to say thank you to that person than to follow them.

Bytheway, your Twitter shootouts is a great way to gain followers as well.

    Thanks for your contribution Lisa.

Thanks for the update Moss, I recently changed my pinned tweet. I am updating it and using it for more social proof than new blog posts like I did years ago. Great tips as it’s harder than ever generating followers on Twitter and on most social networks today.

        Hi Lisa,
Updating your Twitter profile by pinning a recent post is not a bad idea, but a tweet about social proof works best. It helps to establish you s an expert in your industry.
Thank you for adding more comments.

These tips are result-driven bro.
Some people use bots to blow out their follower base. Some bots however help you get super-targeted followers but some are just crab.

I like the fact that this article focuses on getting targeted followers – in terms of niche and geo-location. This is important if we want the exposure and traffic.

Lisa is the go-to person for Twitter and social media tips. I love her constantly educating us on this subject.

Thanks for sharing these tips with us bro. Happy week ahead.

Hi Moss,

Really great read! Twitter is by far my favorite social media application to use. Not only can I follow the news there but I can connect with my favorite people. It’s great for promoting blog content and for networking with others.

I think my fav way to grow my followers is by reaching out and chatting people up. Yes, I might share their posts but I’d rather get to know them one-on-one. When someone so graciously shares my content, I love to give them shoutout back with thanks and see if a little general chit-chat can happen.

Love your tips, my friend! Have a great week ahead!

    Hi Bren,
You’re absolutely right about that. Twitter is a great platform to promote your content, connect with others, and build relationships. Chatting others on the platform is remarkable because you get to know them better. And a relationship you build with this strategy is sure to reach new heights.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
