You mentioned a lot of great things here, and if you can get these steps working together in a system, I think that can be very powerful. Each thing amplifies each other!

I like to take a piece of content and split it up, repurposing it to fit many of the steps mentioned here.

The main points of each blog post are made into a SlideShare, and I use the blog post as an audio script for a podcast (well, audio blog. I do hope to launch a real podcast this year.) Both the audio and the SlideShare are combined to make a YouTube video. The main points become social media graphics.

The audience is different on each platform, but all are built up by each other.

This system works great for me and is worth exploring if 100% unique content for each platform seems too overwhelming.

Excellent article and I’ll be absolutely honest here! I love the alternate way of generating traffic for a blog mentioned above, seriously. Far too many are focusing on algorithm based sources such as SEO and social media – one fell swoop and your traffic can be drastically cut (I’m speaking from experience here for my health site!).

In this day and age, key to blogging success is having a whole variety of traffic sourced and having them balanced – not too much of one or the other in terms of ratio.

I seek these days 40% owned (email, push) 30% SEO and 30% Social Media.

As a side note, I include guest posts and all referral traffic as a search engine based as these articles/links depend on rankings to get traffic.

    You are right about that, SEO is no longer about a target keyword, but a variety of keywords-LSI keywords. I just came from your site where I read and commented on your article. A content cluster is a way to go, and looking at your post about how too find your niche market, it is more like a cluster content because it has different subjects under one topic. Hence, you optimize all the subtopics with relevant keywords which aid the article to rank well on search results.
